Nature Conservation - An Evening with Barra Best

November 14

RE[store] and protect! Did you know that Northern Ireland is the 12th worst for biodiversity loss out of 240 countries? Northern Ireland is facing a significant biodiversity loss at an alarming rate. Our land is home to around 20,000 species, and its rich biological diversity reflects our remarkable geological heritage. However, we are facing significant losses—more than anywhere else in the UK. We’ve lost 97% of our wildflower meadows, 11% of species are at risk of extinction on the island of Ireland, and in 2021, not a single river or lake achieved good overall ecological status. Despite these unprecedented environmental challenges, it’s encouraging to see the dedicated efforts of scientists, activists, and local communities working tirelessly to protect our most vulnerable species and ecosystems.

Know how individuals and communities are fighting back! Join us for an inspiring evening with Barra Best, BBC Weather Presenter and documentary maker, and the dedicated individuals working to save endangered species and environments across the UK and Europe. From restoring habitats and combating climate change to innovation conservation strategies, enjoy a special screening of Barra’s BBC documentary, “Return of the Wild”, and hear first hand about his adventures capturing these incredible stories. This documentary offers a compelling look at the urgent need to preserve the rich diversity of life on Earth.

This event is more that just a screening, it’s a call to action! We will start with a brief introduction from the Office of Environmental Protection, a public body that protects and improves the environment by holding government and other public authorities to account.

Discover how local initiatives are making a difference and learn what you can do to safeguard our natural world for the future generations. Ask Barra a question and be part of the Solution!
