In partnership with NI Screen and Ulster Studio, hear from Gavin Kelly, Facilities and Sustainability Manager at NI Screen, as he discusses the importance of adopting innovative, sustainable techniques and technologies to maintain Northern Ireland’s reputation as a leading screen industry. In alignment with global standards, NI Screen is committed to building a more sustainable industry through its strategic focus on Stories, Skills, and Sustainability. This session will explore the global shift toward sustainable filmmaking and highlight the changes within the local screen industry to address the environmental impact of screen production. You will also hear from Christina Nowak, Chief Strategy Officer at Studio Ulster, the highly anticipated virtual production studio complex opening at Belfast Harbour in 2025. Christina will share insights on the game-changing role of virtual production in reducing the environmental impact of film and TV production. She will discuss how Studio Ulster’s cutting-edge technologies are transforming the industry by driving significant reductions in carbon emissions while maintaining world-class creative standards.

Carol Lemmens - Arup

Carol is Arup’s Global Advisory Services Portfolio leader and interim Europe Property Business leader.

He was instrumental in developing Arup’s position paper to define the circular economy in the context of the built environment and developing Arup’s work as the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s (EMF) knowledge partner for the built environment. He continues to work to raise the awareness of the circular economy approach from general first principles to practice by identifying the many challenges, enablers and opportunities available to Arup and others in making the circular economy a reality. Carol regularly contributes to Circular Economy and thought pieces, presentations and interviews globally. Most notably, Carol was invited to give a key note address to the United Nations General Assembly at their Circular Economy event, in October 2018.
