‘Join our panel of guest speakers, blending the best of international and local experience, as we discuss the sustainable regeneration of Belfast City Centre. The panel consists of:
Sean Lockie – an international expert in sustainable cities who works for ARUP. He will be travelling all the way from from Venice and will also present at our green buildings breakfast on Thursday morning.
Michele Bryans, CEO of Eastside, who previously led the creation of the Connnswater Greenway, and is an expert in community led regeneration and active travel.
Gavan Rafferty – lecturer in spatial planning and development at Ulster University, who is also taking forward the Belfast Thrives research project with Belfast City Council to enhance liveability and well-being.
Christiaan Karelse – LQ BID regeneration manager who has been leading our public realm projects (including the parklet outside Pugs). Christiaan is a native of the Netherlands so will also bring an international perspective, and love of cycling, to the conversation.
New initiatives such as the “Bolder Vision” will be debated alongside the rollout of new parklets and public realm across the Linen Quarter. Other topics include:
How can we realistically achieve modal shift towards sustainable and active transport? How do we overcome higher development costs to deliver more sustainable buildings? With so many disparate stakeholders how do we achieve buy-in for sustainable regeneration in a fair and inclusive way? The discussions will be informal with a high level of audience participation. Complimentary pizza will be served half way through and drinks are available to purchase at the bar.
